Summary, etc. This sociology is the study of social relations, and its primary subject matter is the group, not the individual. Had sociologists encountered these cowboys (who were on their way to a fair in Bonham, Texas, at the turn of the century), they wouldn't have been eager to know how each felt about being a cowboy or who hated horses. Instead, sociologists would want to know who liked or disliked whom within the group, how young men were recruited and trained for range work, and who was entitled to give orders to whom within the group.
