A timeline points out important scientific events and their relationships to other historical events. The photograph and introductory paragraph at the beginning of each chapter describe the major theme of the chapter and relate it to your everyday life. Each chapter has several major divisions. At the beginning of each major division, a list of Goals indentifies what you will learn as you study the short, numbered sections.
