"Investigating mathematics: an interactive approach is the result of a unique publisher/ state department of education partnership to publish innovative mathematics learning materials, known informally as "Math A". Beginning in 1998 and continuing through 1992, Math A was developed under the direction of Thomas J. Lester of the California Department of Education Mr. Lester is the director of both the Math A and Math B Committees that seek to link local efforts to support and clarify the Math A/B concept. The committees are composed of over fifty mathematics specialist, high school mathematics teachers and college professors of mathematics who wrote, piloted, critiqued the initial materials, and then trained teachers throughout the state in using the materials. Without the hard work and dedication of the Math A committee, the development of this program would not have been possible. For over three years, these materials, were field tested in hundreds of schools by hundreds of teachers and thousands of students. Based on their use in schools, the materials were revised continuously."
