Literature From Afro-Asian regions are considered to foster in the Filipino students better understanding and appreciation of their Asian and African neighbors' roots, culture and traditions that may help them chart direction for a well-defined future. The Unit and Lesson Openers present Big Ideas and essential Questions to spark the learners' thinking caps which may help them become critical-thinkers, decision-makers, and life-long learners. The instructional framework espoused by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe is deliberately used i the development of these materials. To make the students demonstrate the facets of understanding, aside from the sets of exercises provided after the discussion of a topic, Performance Task, which is a culminating task in every lesson, is provided to allow them to transfer what has been learned. Self and peer assessments are carried out through the use of rubric.
